Interview with Dr. Melody Foxx

Yvonne Bustamante, a Wellness, Life and Fitness Coach, talked to Dr. Melody Foxx on how to raise happy, healthy, and competent children in today’s society.

Her organization, 3 Degrees of Fitness, has recently launched a new online webinar series which coaches parents to achieve the ultimate mental, physical and social wellness for their families. Her free monthly webinar courses have talked about S.M.A.R.T. Goals for 2012, Discipline that Works with Ages 2-20+, Raising Confident & Competent Children, and Discipline that Works & Praise that Doesn’t.

3 Degrees of Fitness
When asked by Dr. Foxx why her organization was called “3 Degree Of Fitness, “Bustamante responded that she liked to break down concepts into triads as it made it easier for people to remember. She chose the name to reflect mental, physical, and social fitness.

Bustamante defined mental wellness as a relative state of mind in which a person is able to cope with and adjust to the recurrent stresses of everyday living in an acceptable way.

She described physical wellness as freedom from disease, pain or defect. In addition, the physical benefits of looking good and feeling healthy most often lead to the psychological benefits of enhanced self-esteem, self-control, determination and a sense of direction.

Finally, Bustamanteconsidered social wellness as a person’s ability to interact with people around them. It involves using good communication skills, having meaningful relationships, respecting yourself and others, and creating a support system that includes family members and friends.

Parenting Classes
Bustamante teaches parenting classes, including ideas on how to promote physical, intellectual, social, financial, emotional, and spiritual fitness. Parents learn to encourage their kids to find sports they enjoy, read more books and watch less TV, pick good friends, and learn basic financial skills like balancing a checkbook.
9 Week Healthy Parenting Webinar Series
3 Degrees of Fitness is rolling out a webinar series to encourage parents to be better role models. The course includes lessons on communication, discipline and health, as well as using practical tools for improving confidence, respect and self sufficiency. The course is delivered via a parenting manual, Q&A audios, and recorded sessions of audio and PowerPoint slides. All lessons are designed to foster family harmony, self discipline and ultimate wellness so children experience enduring health, happiness and peace.

20 Years Counseling Experience
The life and success coach has more than 20 years counseling experience working with adults, children, families and groups. She has an M.A. in Psychology and has completed certification programs in Health and Wellness Coaching, Life Coaching and Fitness Trainer Education. Her years of experience have been spent assisting people with developing and improving their life skills as well as setting and achieving their health & wellness goals. She is also an experienced public speaker addressing the topics of weight loss, parenting and relationships.
