Martial arts training can increase self-esteem in many ways for many young people.
MENTAL and EMOTIONAL OBSTACLES
Mental obstacles can be overcome through martial arts training – including a lack of confidence. As a young person progresses through the various levels, the can conquer self-doubt and other feelings to build mental awareness of your mind and body connection. Becoming physically capable of reaching a goal that is connected to their mental ability.
SELF-CONTROL
Martial arts help build self-esteem it allows kids to progress at their own pace and succeed individually. Achieving belts gives them a feeling of accomplishment. They also learn how to set milestones and gives them confidence to reach these goals. Martial arts also promotes respect for others and the knowledge that they can defend themselves if needed. These skills promote tremendous self-confidence.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Self-esteem comes from feeling fit with increased strength. When a teen feels good about himself physically, other parts of his life improve as well. In addition, his improved coordination enhances his participation in other sports and activities.
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:
The benefits of improved self-esteem for young people are endless. Kids with high self-esteem do better in school, are less likely to become involved in drugs and are more likely to have more healthy lives. Martial arts training also teaches kids how set and reach their goals and become positive role models for their friends and peers.
