According to the studies conducted by departments of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the Center for Disease Prevention:
- 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old,
- 9.0 % of reported child abuse cases were sexual abused, and
- 34% of people who sexually abuse a child are family members.
These staggering numbers should give everyone a moment of pause and bring our attention to the outstanding organizations taking up the gauntlet to change this travesty and make difference in the lives of at-risk youth.

ABOUT KIMBERLY ROGERS
Kimberly Rogers is the mother of a special-needs child and the Children’s Outreach Coordinator for Childhelp. She works with potential foster parents as well as county placement offices to try to match children in need with people who care. Kimberly describes her as “fabulously normal” and the mantra she translates into her work with Childhelp is: “Happiness is your own responsibility, not only to yourself but to every life you touch. You owe this world the best you have to give, and you can’t begin to find that until you, yourself, are truly happy.”
