Crisis coach and behavioral adviser, Scott H. Silverman, is joined by fellow guest Brian Couey, Director of Outpatient Services at the Hazelton Betty Ford Foundation, to discuss Scott’s new book, Tell Me No, I Dare You: A Guide for Living a Heroic Life: A Guide for Living a Heroic Life.
Tell Me No, I Dare You takes readers on Scott’s personal journey from a near suicide to starting a multi-million dollar non-profit helping thousands of at-risk teens enter into the workplace, into society, and into productive lives.
While it might sound like a screenplay, every word is true. Part memoir, part how-to, Tell Me No. I Dare You! is honest, poignant, hilarious, but most importantly, a guidebook to accepting the challenge of turning the nos in one’s life into action-filled yeses.

Scott Silverman, Author of Tell Me No. I Dare You! leads others to recovery with empathy. Thirty years ago he was on the edge. Struggling from addiction, considering suicide, and feeling like things were unraveling. He was at rock bottom. The day after trying to kill himself, he lew home and immediately entered treatment. He lived the embarrassment, fear, and helplessness surrounding addiction. And he has come out the other side whole.
Today, Scott gets to give back. He is now 31 years sober, working to empower others on their journey. He get results.
As founder of Second Chance, he worked to break the cycle of substance abuse, unemployment, poverty, and homelessness for 25,000 at-risk teens and adults going through the incarceration system.

Brian Couey, PsyD, LAADC, CATC-IV, CAMF, is the Director of Outpatient Services, San Diego has held several leadership roles in the addiction treatment field, including program manager at Valley Women’s Center from 2009 to 2015; clinical coordinator at the Inter-Agency Drug Abuse Recovery Programs; and manager at Center for Living and Learning, Inc.
He earned a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant University. He is also a Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LAADC), a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor Level IV (CATC-IV) and a Certified Anger Management Facilitator (CAMF). He also holds a Domestic Violence Counselor Certification and is certified in Seeking Safety and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.
