In the United States today, there are over 8 million children experiencing daily anxiety, and almost 2 million children who are refused to go to school this morning due to anxiety, fears, and related emotional and behavioral challenges.
Dr. Villiers, founder of Mountain Valley Treatment Center, shares with our audience refers to this latter group as a generation of “children in hiding,” where anxiety and fear have “created a mass exodus who is escaping the social and academic pressures of school, to the safety of the home and the short solution it appears to provide 24 hours a day.”
Dr. Villiers brings insight into why our children are experiencing this epidemic of anxiety now, how we can identify when it becomes a problem, and what we can do to help.
ABOUT DR. DANIEL VILLIERS
Dr. Daniel Villiers, is the Founder and Director of Admissions of The Mountain Valley Treatment Center, the first non-hospital based residential program for the treatment of adolescent anxiety in the United States. Dr. Villiers specializes in the treatment of child and adolescent anxiety disorders, and has specific experience and training in the identification, prevention, and treatment of the child, adolescent, and adult anxiety. Dr. Villiers completed his graduate work at Dartmouth College and Northeastern University, has presented at conferences across the country, and is the author of numerous articles in the field of child mental health.
