Teens today experience a unique set of pressures, and with the number of new drugs and the ease of obtaining all forms of cannabis these days, it can be easy for a teen to slip into a path of addiction. Marijuana abuse, as well as prescription drug addiction, are among the most prevalent issues among teens.
Adolescent Brain Neuroscience has shown that the white matter of the brain establishing neuron connectivity, continues to develop between the ages of 10 and 30. According to studies performed by the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, exposure to exogenous cannabinoids, such as THC, during this period can permanently alter the brain’s neuron connectivity resulting in detrimental changes in higher order thinking and memory.
