ABOUT NEIL BROWN

Long before Neil Brown went to graduate school, he knew he wanted to be a family therapist. Working as a teacher in a school for children with developmental delays in southern Colorado, he discovered something amazing. When he drove out to the students’ distant rural homes, met with their parents, and told them how much he enjoyed their kids, it created a profound difference in how the children performed. They went from defeated, depressed, unmotivated students to happy, engaged kids.

After receiving his Masters in Social Work at University of Denver, Neil became a virtual family therapy addict reading stacks of books about family dynamics and its influence on individual development. Forced to look at himself and the family in which I grew up, he became aware of the limiting and in many ways destructive relationship and communication patterns he grew up with and the impact they had on his own personality development.

Neil admits that he and his wife were challenged when raising their two boys and that they made plenty of mistakes, avoiding many of the ones our parents made, yet coming up against their own blind spots.

His first book entitled Ending the Parent Teen Control Battle is just one of the powerful tools he has developed to help families. He also writes an impressive and popular blog and appears on radio and other media frequently around the country.
