Dan Lier, a nationally known speaker, best-selling author and consultant in the area of success and peak performance for both business and life recently spoke with Allen Cardoza on L.A. Talk Radio about success, particularly parents modelling success for their children.
With over 3,500 presentations in 20 countries, Dan Lier’s work has been covered by popular television shows like the Today Show and Inside Edition.
When questioned about the nature of success, Lier responded that what people really seek is fulfilment. All goals ultimately aim to provide only one outcome – fulfilment through making a positive change. He estimated that as much as 90% of people are not fulfilled in their lives. The slim 10% who are successful, who are living fulfilling lives, have found it by doing work that they love.
Within families, the process to create success is from the top down. Successful parents become positive role models for their children. Success from the top down, from parents to children, is based on creating a successful and rewarding family culture.
Lier reckoned that only about 25% of success was due to having the best education and that parents who only focused on getting their children into the top Ivy League colleges were missing the point. Successful children were mainly the result of successful parental role models.
Despite the current world economic uncertainty, it was still possible to attain success because what mattered most was having the right mindset. The wrong attitude was feeling helpless because of the economy, and that a person with an open mind could take the rights to steps to make things happen.
Challenged by Cardoza to offer the listeners a realistic game plan, Lier suggested the idea of using an accountability partner. The process was simple, find someone who will give you an honest opinion, tell them your goals, share your plans on achieving it, and call the person at a designated time every week to give them a progress report. Additionally, this partnership could be mutual, with each person supporting the other person’s vision of success.
Throughout the show, Cardoza spoke highly of Lier’s 10 minute coaching CDs, available on his website (danlier.com) and from the home shopping network on television, because they allowed a person to quickly assimilate the principles of success in manageable chunks of time, even when they were driving around town.
