Interview by Allen Cardoza & Dr. Melody Foxx
Allen and Melody were joined by Dustin Tibbitts who discussed the unique “InnerChange” treatment programs that allowed teen girls and young adult women and their families to stabilize, heal, and begin to discover their life’s passion.
Committed to restoring hope in the lives of those they serve, InnerChange provides education, treatment, and recovery programs for teens and young women who have experienced emotional or behavioral difficulties. The clinically sophisticated residential treatment and transitional living programs are designed to facilitate whole-family healing.
The gender-specific, family-focused and results-based treatments assisted the process of healing for females who are struggling with complex behavioral and emotional issues. Tibbits also discussed the treatment industry as a whole and discussed the value of behavioral vs relationship based treatment and why gender specific treatment is important.
While every program offered by InnerChange has a unique specialty, all are unified by a common set of treatment values and standards that have allowed them to have the most impressive outcomes in adolescent treatment. They are committed to providing values based, family oriented programs that utilize the most clinically sophisticated approaches available – approaches proven to be effective for the long-term healing of adolescent and young adult issues.
Tibbits was a founding employee of New Haven in 1996, beginning as a staff supervisor working directly with the girls. He coordinated the development of New Haven’s Family Works approach, its Values Program, its clinical philosophy and its extensive employee training program. He has been at New Haven’s helm since 2001.
In 2006, Dustin helped form InnerChange and became a minor partner. He assisted with the purchase of Sunrise later that year and Fulshear Ranch Academy in 2007. Dustin’s mental health experience includes seventeen years working with intensive in-patient residential treatment settings, outpatient therapy, transition services, rape and suicide crisis lines, and raising five foster teenagers in his home.
