TITLE: “Is the Cart before the Horse: Failure to Launch and Substance Use Disorders”
http://www.DecisionPointCenter.com/
What we’ve seen in our industry over the years is an interesting phenomenon. First, society as a whole, and in many cases people within the industry, believed that there was no such thing as the, “disease” of addiction. They felt that drug addiction and alcoholism were symptoms of moral failing or lack of self-control.
Thanks to extensive research and a significant effort to educate the general public, the notion of the addiction as a, “disease” has been widely accepted. This very quickly became an opportunity for treatment providers, often fighting for higher or continued insurance reimbursements to paint patients as sick as they possibly could.
The reality is that while a lot of people do in fact suffer from the disease of addiction, many people struggling with substances do not. With more people seeking treatment now than ever, we have to recognize as an industry that not everyone that raises their hand for help is a full blown addict.
Our focus as a program is to offer a unique assessments, treatment, and community to provide clients with the insight and tools necessary to move forward with purpose and meaning regardless of their history of substance misuse, abuse, and other co-occurring disorders..
