TITLE: Over Sexed Teens

http://www.oxbowacademy.net

SPECIAL GUEST: Shawn Brooks, Heather Green LCSW and Steve Schultz

Oxbow Academy is not a troubled teen boot camp. We are the premier provider of residential treatment for teenage boys struggling with a variety of behavioral problems that also include sexual concerns.

Unlike other struggling teen programs, Oxbow Academy bases the student’s length of stay on therapeutic need and progress. Progress will be measured not just in therapy sessions but also in practical daily living skills, academic effort, and in social interactions with peers, staff and family members.

Within the first 30 days of admission, every student receives a complete psycho-sexual evaluation to determine the focus of treatment, therapeutic needs, approximate length of stay, and individualized treatment plans. Medication management occurs on at least a monthly basis with a licensed Psychiatrist and on-site Registered Nurse. Clinically intensive therapy is complimented with experiential therapy and psycho-educational classes on healthy relationships, anger management, moral reasoning and social skills.

The three keys to successful treatment at Oxbow Academy are honesty, commitment, and risk.

Honesty means no lies, storytelling, or half-truths. This may be one of the hardest things our students must learn in a very sort period of time. The more honest they are in the beginning of their therapy the more quickly they will progress.

Your son must become Committed! He must be willing to fully engage in the therapeutic process. This will be done by being honest with his therapist, interacting pro-socially with peers, staff and family, asking questions, and talking about difficult issues. Your son will also demonstrate his commitment by following program rules and interacting with the treatment team in a genuine and cooperative manner.

Finally, your son will be asked to Risk! This means openly sharing his personal history, thoughts and feelings, as well as reporting lapses that he has while in treatment. He keeps no secrets from therapists, staff members or his family. His willingness to risk opens the door to healing.

Our treatment approach is described in detail under the Therapy Section of our website. We are happy to answer any questions you might have about how this approach can benefit your child. Please call our admissions director for a personal consultation.
