SPECIAL GUEST: Garth Lasater
Garth Lasater, Clinical Director of Ashcreek Ranch Academy (ARA), and Mike Randall, Horsemanship Program Director, join Answers for the Family to share ARA’s unique Seven Challenges® Program that simultaneously helps young people address their substance abuse issues, as well as their co-occurring life skill deficits, situational problems, and psychological issues. Regardless of their role at the ranch, ARA’s staff are one seamless team, speaking the same terminology and supporting the students through the same techniques and principles.
Helping boys overcome the stranglehold of selfishness and self-centeredness, ARA provides an environment in which they are active, physically challenged, and engaged in healthy activities. The daily ranch, family-living environment resembles a home environment where each boy participates in daily chores and preparing meals. With a goal of teaching service toward others and “community responsibility”, ARA is transforming troubled boys into responsible young men.
ABOUT GARTH LASATER
Garth Lasater, clinical director of Ashcreek Ranch, spent the early years of his life living in various places and countries around the world which happens when your father is a General in the Air Force. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Social work from Brigham Young University and his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV).
Garth specializes in working with adolescents and their families in addressing chemical dependency, oppositional defiant attitudes and behaviors, depression, and other family systems issues. He has a wide range of clinical experience and educational in maintaining sustained recovery.
With over eighteen years of experience working in residential treatment programs and is the recipient of the Special Recognition Eli Lilly Welcome Back Award for his primary care with those who are engaged in the struggle with clinical depression.
ABOUT MIKE RANDALL
Mike Randall began his career as a professional horseman in 1986 when he went to work as a cowboy for Deseret Ranches of Florida, which is one of the largest ranches in the United States with over 40,000 head of cattle.
Mike and his wife opened JM Randall Training Stables and in 1996 Mike found another passion when he accepted a position coaching football and wrestling at the High School level. In 2003 he was voted the 2A Utah State Wrestling Coach of the Year.
Since 2005 Mike has worked with several Residential Treatment Centers as their Equine Facilitators. Over the years he has developed an extensive curriculum utilizing horses in recovery. Mike is also an EAGALA certified horseman and is frequently a presenter at the EAGALA conferences.
Mike is excited to lead the Ashcreek Ranch Equine Team and believes the ARA Horsemanship Program is second to none.Mike knows the young men at ARA will be able to take the lessons, knowledge and work ethic with them wherever they want to go in life.
