TITLE: “Don’t Miss – Motivating Teens to Discover Their Career Passion”
SPECIAL GUEST: Lissa Markwardt – Career Education Consultant and Founder of Career Intention
http://careerintention.com/
High school students today have an abundance of post-secondary education and career options, yet most of them report that they do not possess the knowledge or skills necessary for making good career choices. Allen discuss with Lissa her three-step process to facilitate student career decision-making using the “best of the best” resources and techniques that guide students to:
- Discover their Career Passion – I strongly believe we all possess the ability to do some things better than others. Collaboratively, those things become our career purpose or passion. By using a variety of inventories and relevant activities, we explore strengths, skills, interests and work values…those qualities that set us apart and drive us. We then investigate environments where identified talents can flourish. We uncover career passion.
- Make Connections to Educational and Career Opportunities – Connecting with individuals who are living fulfilling and successful career lives in related fields can provide strategic information for career development and planning. Together we will experience Roadtrip Nation (Roadtripnation.org) where participants gain motivational insight, see the relevance of education and learn priceless networking skills that will provide lifetime career benefit.
- Successfully Engage in Relevant World of Work Experiences – The best way to know if a career is a good fit is to actually experience it in some capacity. Participants acquire “next step” knowledge and skills to move career passion into action and potential real world career experience. This step not only facilitates career planning, but also enhances career opportunity.
