Many people are familiar with the term “emotional intimacy” but often times it is overlooked within the family. Parents and kids alike get caught up in the day to day tasks of life and emotional intimacy is usually one of the first things to fall through the cracks. But this is not in the family’s best interest. Learning how to be emotionally intimate needs to begin within the family unit.
From an early age we subconsciously learn whether it is safe, or not, to share our feelings and thoughts with those closest to us. In childhood, the safest place to experience “emotional intimacy” should be with our family. Unfortunately this is rarely the case.
Lisa Smith challenges our audience to take a hard look at the consequences of allowing secrets, insecurities, and fear create barriers in achieving “emotional intimacy” in one’s family. She sites studies showing what adult children who felt obligated to keep significant secrets as children are more prone to suffer from.
Lisa believes that one of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child is a safe place to be emotionally vulnerable. Listen and learn how parents can create a family environment where trust and emotional connectedness can flourish.

ABOUT LISA SMITH
Lisa Smith has over 18 years of experience, a Master’s degree, and credentials in Counseling. After teaching for several years and directing one of the largest after school programs for at-risk kids, she became the Intervention Counselor at a large urban high school in Southern California. It was here that she found her passion in helping families come together and heal their relationships. Lisa now runs her own business, Save My Family Today, which provides in-home family coaching in Los Angeles and Orange County. Smith also teaches and speaks at parenting classes in her community.
