Sleep.  Few of us get enough of it.  Most of us crave more. None of us, until now, knew it had a secret life. The Secret Life of Sleep, by family therapist, Kat Duff, explores what happens between the time we close our eyes in bed at night and the moment we wake up in the morning. While that intensely private and mostly unconscious experience is often ignored, the mysteries of slumber have intrigued us from the beginning of time.

Award-winning author and licensed Mental Health Counselor Kat Duff uncovers what goes on while we’re sleeping. She taps into the enormous reservoir of human experiences, including literature, culture, and spiritual traditions from around the globe to illuminate the complexities of a world where sleep has become a dwindling resource.

“Sleep,” Duff says, “is an occurrence that is so common, so habitual, so ubiquitous, we barely notice. Like the air we breathe, it is something we become aware of only when its quality is deteriorating.”

Not only will The Secret Life of Sleep change the way we look at and value our sleep, it will change the way we actually do it!

ABOUT KAT DUFF

Living in the high desert of northern New Mexico for the last quarter century, award-winning author and licensed Mental Health Counselor Kat Duff works with traumatized children and adults, and finds solace in the open spaces and traditional cultures that surround her.

Kat is the author of The Alchemy of Illness, and several essays published in Parabola Magazine, The Taos Review, and Ink and Ashes.  She writes at the intersection of the natural world and the imagination as it occurs in the life our bodies. Whether she is discussing illness, scars, or sleep, Duff illuminates common, intimate experiences that are often overlooked with a lyricism that makes the profane flare into sacredness.
