TITLE: “”Football Safety and Its Impact on Youth Sports”
Football is one of the most popular sports played by young athletes. Unfortunately, its popularity sometimes comes with a price. In 2012, over 900,000 young athletes under the age of 18 were treated in emergency rooms, doctors’ offices, and clinics for football-related injuries, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Former NFL lineman Steve Wright believes that for the sport to continue thrive, improved safer football equipment must be developed to keep up with the bigger, faster and stronger players of today. Tune in as Steve and our co-hosts, Allen Cardoza and Marvin Smith, tackle this controversial issue that affects every level of the sport, starting with the NFL and moving all the way down to junior leagues.
ABOUT STEVE WRIGHT
Steve Wright, grew up in Minneapolis and attended the University of Northern Iowa studying Marketing. After a 13-year NFL career and three years before retiring from the Los Angeles Raiders in 1994, Steve created the first sidelines mist cooling system called Cloudburst Misting Systems. He won the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics cooling contract, which launched the global awareness of this unique and very successful technology.
Leading the Military Support Ministry for four years supporting the marines and their families at Camp Pendleton was a true highlight and life changer.
Steve is a team member of Globall Giving, a suburban Milwaukee-based charity that collects and distributes new and gently used sporting equipment for distribution to disadvantaged children who have no resources to enjoy the pure joy that a pair of shoes or a ball will bring.
Steve was a contestant on CBS’s Survivor Season 22 in Nicaragua .
