Dr. Gary Simonds

Gary Simonds, MD is a retired neurosurgeon who’s treated tens of thousands of patients. He’s the Founding Chief of Neurosurgery at the Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (retired) and the author of three non-fiction books. Death’s Pale Flag, BQB Publishing, is publishing on June 27, 2023, It’s his first novel.

Educator, speaker, neurosurgeon, and burnout warrior Dr. Gary Simonds has written a riveting psychological thriller that blends a harrowing peek behind the curtains of modern-day neurosurgery with a fantastical journey into the paranormal. And who better to tell this story than Dr. Gary Simonds, himself a highly experienced neurosurgeon (who holds a Masters of Healthcare Delivery from Dartmouth) – who takes the reader on an immersive journey into the behind the scenes world of the operating room where few people have ever been.

As a scientist and medical doctor, Gary Simonds also believes in the possibility of the supernatural!  In ghosts. So, he wrote his first novel:  Death’s Pale Flag, which Kirkus Reviews calls: A fantastic medical and supernatural thriller with a memorable hero.
